A Indian Chilanum / Hindu dagger of exceptional quality, dating to 18th. Century. This is the finest dagger we have ever seen of this important type. The dagger with a fantastic early damask blade in near MINT quality. Multitude of deep fullers in it's whole length. Heavy blade that thickens greatly near the point, made for piercing through indo persian mail shirts. Incised, near the hilt with the former owners initials. Picked from the corpse of a dead Gurka during the first world war by a british officer. Guaranted from 1700's and quaranteed original in all it's parts! The hilt of ivory / elephants tusk and mounted with beautifully toned silver rosettes / rivets. The knuckle bow of steel and terminates in a small animals head. The dagger is HUGE ! The total length is 353 mm. with a blade 53 mm. wide at the base. The handle was made for a grown up man. Condition: Superb !!

See CZERNY'S INERNATIONAL AUCTION 15 NOVEMBER 2003 Auction N. 12 / lot # 0159 for another Chilanum going for 23OO EUROS +++
Our piece has got a much better blade and is overall a more impressive dagger in our modest, subjective opinion.

We haven't seen a better blade for the type of weapon, no corrosion or pitting whatsoever. Small chip at the hilt is the only detraction from perfection.
